You’ve seen the sites, visited the Acropolis, walked around Plaka and Anafiotika, and your feet are aching. You need a horizontal day and some Vitamin Sea. Time to visit the Athens Riviera and soak up the sun on one of the incredible beaches Athens has to offer.
One of Athens’ premium beaches is located in Vouliagmeni, an exclusive suburb on the famous Athens Riviera. Astir Beach offers you everything you could wish for – comfortable sunbeds, beach service, shopping, a spa, beautiful sunsets, and good food provided by two superb restaurants located on the beach: The trendy 40forty restaurant and bar where you can savor delicious and refreshing dishes including gourmet salads, seafood, burgers and tacos while enjoying top class Greek wines and tantalising cocktails. Be sure to book a table at this vibrant hangout if you don’t want to be dissappointed.
Sunbeds on the right half of the beach are serviced by 40forty so you can also order snacks and drinks to be served on the beach by simply pressing the service button on your umbrella. At around sunset, trendy Athenians in the know start arriving at 40forty for sunset cocktails, dinner and drinks and the vibe turns from chilled to party atmosphere as the evening progresses. 40forty hosts some really cool parties on occasion, like the recent Sunset Beach party by Alexandros Christopoulos – one of Greece’s top DJ’s – where some 2000 chic beautiful people danced the night away under the stars. Keep an eye out for upcoming events both by 40forty and Alexandros Christopoulos; believe me you won’t be dissapointed!
The left side of the beach is serviced by the chilled Nice and Easy Seaside organic restaurant. This beautiful restaurant offers a variety of delicious, innovative dishes made of fresh organic ingredients, with some vegan options on offer too. The food is truly exceptional and the restaurant itself is absolutely gorgeous. Everything about this location is superb, including the service, and is a favourite among vegans and vegetarians.
Both restaurants can be visited in the evening, after the beach has closed. A word of caution though: if you want to visit only the restaurants while the beach is still operating (up to 8pm every day) – be aware that you will have to pay for the beach entrance too ( 25 euros per person on weekdays and 30 euros per person at the weekend). After 8pm, entrance to the beach is free, but don’t forget to reserve a table, no matter what time you decide to visit.
